LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Two firefighters were injured after a wall collapsed on them during a building fire in Laurel County, according to London Mayor Randall Weddle.
The fire happened at a small apartment building off U.S. 25 near a Dollar General, according to Weddle. The injured firefighters worked for the Lily Fire & Rescue Department and Laurel County Fire and Rescue Department.
The extent of the firefighters’ injuries were not provided. Weddle said they were quickly pulled to safety after the partial building collapse and taken to a hospital.
“Victoria and I ask that you please join us in praying for the injured firefighters, as well as all emergency personnel currently on scene,” Weddle said in a Facebook post.
As of 3:45 a.m. , a section of U.S. 25 South was blocked off due to the fire, according to Weddle. People were encouraged to avoid the area.
