The Oklahoma State Governor’s Office declared May 3, 2026, as National Firefighters Memorial Day in the State of Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department (OKCFD) said the proclamation was developed with assistance from the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and OKCFD Chief Derrick Kiel. Chief Kiel serves as the State of Oklahoma’s lead NFFF contact. Kiel helped secure approval for the proclamation.

OKCFD said they are grateful for the partnership.

We are grateful for their partnership in honoring firefighters who gave their lives in service to their communities. Their courage, sacrifice, and legacy will forever be remembered.
