Freight container catches fire on moving train in Los Angeles

Share

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A freight container caught fire on a moving train in Los Angeles Tuesday morning. Not much was known about the situation right away. Video posted to the Citizen App shows the train near Mission Road in Lincoln Heights with one storage container’s contents on fire.

A plume of smoke was seen rising as the fire, which appeared to start in an Amazon shipping container, continued to grow, according to the Citizen App footage, which also showed first responders arriving and the train being turned around. By 6:25 a.m., the train had been taken back to the depot; Sky5 was overhead as firefighters put out the flames.

The container appeared to be considerably damaged. Per Rich Prickett in Sky5, a crane will be brought in to lower the container to the ground so crews could finish extinguishment efforts and officials could start their investigation.
