VIDEO: Santa Fe Drive is closed in Littleton as firefighters with South Metro Fire Rescue extinguish a fuel tanker fire Monday morning.

The fire began around 5:20 a.m. Monday in the 4800 block of South Santa Fe Drive, according to Littleton Police. That’s near South Santa Fe Drive and West Belleview Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, they found a fuel tanker on its side and on fire, according to South Metro Fire. Crews let the tanker burn to avoid potential hazardous waste running off into the South Platte River, South Metro Fire said.

The fire did not spread to any of the surrounding buildings or vehicles although 5-10 vehicles were impacted primarily by heat, according to South Metro Fire. As of 8 a.m., there were no reports of injuries from the fire.

Traffic on Santa Fe Drive is shut down in all directions, according to Littleton Police. Drivers are asked to avoid the area as emergency crews respond to the fire.
