Share

The Illinois Department of Public Health has released its first-ever carbon monoxide surveillance report, which details all known unintentional carbon monoxide exposures in the state from 2019 to 2023. The Department of Public Health said data from this report will help state and local officials develop targeted public information strategies to reduce carbon monoxide exposures.

“This first-ever report gives us the tools and strategies to act now, protecting Illinois families and preventing these tragedies before they happen,” said Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Sameer Vohra.

According to Illinois State Fire Marshal Michele Pankow, Illinois fire departments responded to nearly 10,000 carbon monoxide-related calls in 2024.

Public health officials said prevention from carbon monoxide exposure is essential for everyone.
