Wind-driven wildfire spreads into Oklahoma City auto body shop, officials say

Share

VIDEO: A wildfire driven by strong winds burned into an auto body shop in northwest Oklahoma City on Monday afternoon, prompting a large response from multiple fire companies.

Oklahoma City Fire Battalion Chief Andrew McCann said the wildfire started to the southeast in a wooded area and was already threatening the body shop before crews could reach the scene due to the wind.

McCann said the fire was contained, but crews were working to put out hot spots, particularly in the wooded area.

He said the fire inside the building was controlled and extinguished, and firefighters were working to ventilate the building so they could access and assess damage.

McCann said everyone made it out safely.

“Fortunately, there were five occupants of the structure, all employees of the business. They all self-evacuated and are reporting no injuries. I also have no injuries to firefighters at this time,” McCann said.
