Officials with the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Counter-Terrorism Section announced the arrest of a serial arsonist responsible for at least five significant fires across the region.
Due the ongoing nature of the investigation, officials would only say that the arrest came after a joint investigation with the Los Angeles Police Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
“The joint investigation, which brought together local, state and federal law enforcement resources, resulted in the apprehension of a suspect whose alleged actions placed both civilians and firefighters at serious risk,” fire officials said in a news release.
While they did not specify exactly which fire, officials added that at least one of the intentional blazes is expected to be prosecuted at a federal level by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in L.A. “Serial arson puts lives at risk on both sides of the fire line,” said Stephanie Bishop, LAFD Spokesperson.
