Boston firefighter Mark Garcia injured in Iranian drone strike in Kuwait, Gov. Maura Healey says

BOSTON — A Boston firefighter and Massachusetts National Guard member was among those injured in a deadly Iranian drone strike in Kuwait that killed six U.S. service members.

Gov. Maura Healey said Army National Guard Major Mark Garcia, a Boston firefighter, was injured in the attack on March 1 and is recovering overseas, WCVB reported.

Garcia is assigned to Engine 50 in Charlestown.

“He was on site, he was in that explosion that killed those six people,” Healy said. “He’s recovering right now in Germany, and we will celebrate his return in a couple of months.”

In a statement, Boston Firefighters IAFF Local 718 said it is “incredibly proud” of Garcia’s service in defense of the United States.
