Firefighters battle brush fire on Kauai, burns 100 acres

VIDEO: A brush fire near mile marker 2 of Waimea Canyon Drive on Kauai has prompted a road closure Saturday. The fire was first reported shortly before 9 p.m. on March 7. The Kauai Fire Department is responding to the fire, and according to a preliminary report, it is estimated to be 200 feet by 300 feet.

At 10:40 p.m., KFD said crews have knocked down the southern flank of the fire. Firefighters are relocating to the northern flank to continue fighting the fire. On Sunday, March 8, at 10 a.m., KFD reported crews are putting out spot fires along the fire line. Approximately 100 acres have been scorched by the fire.

KFD reports crews have the fire under control despite active flames and will remain on scene to continue suppression efforts. As of 2 p.m., crews are continuing to put out spot fires along the fire line. The department said there are currently no threats to nearby structures and no reports of injuries.
