VIDEO/PHOTOS: A fire that started while a woman was lighting her woodstove destroyed a double-wide manufactured home Sunday morning in Sweet Home, sending one person to the hospital for evaluation.
Sweet Home Fire was dispatched at 7:20 a.m. after a house fire was reported to be fully engulfed. The home’s single occupant escaped and told firefighters the fire began when she struck a match to light her woodstove and the head of the matchstick broke off and fell onto the couch. She tried to remove the burning couch but was unable to and was forced to evacuate.
Neighbors called 911 as the fire quickly spread through the home. The incident commander requested a second-alarm assignment while leaving the station after seeing a large header of smoke.
The first fire unit arrived at 7:26 a.m. and found half of the structure fully involved, with flames coming from every window and venting through the roof, while the other half was filled with black smoke. Crews had water on the fire at 7:33 a.m., and the fire was knocked down at 7:45 a.m.
