VIDEO: Firefighters were working to extinguish a fire at an Entergy substation off Big Lake Road. Smoke was visible throughout south Lake Charles, and around 4,500 Entergy customers lost power. As of 4 p.m. Monday, 160 customers remained without power.

The substation is on Vincent Road near the Graywood neighborhood. Big Lake Road is closed at Vincent Road and Graywood Parkway.

No one was on site, and no injuries have been reported, Entergy officials said. Entergy crews have deenergized the substation, and firefighters started extinguishing the fire around 3:35.

The explosion “came out of nowhere,” according to Entergy officials. The cause is under investigation.
