The Seeley Lake Rural Fire District held their monthly meeting Feb. 16. Throughout the meeting, the search for a new permanent fire chief came up multiple times. During the public comment portion of the meeting, Kristy Pohlman expressed her appreciation for recent developments she credits to acting Fire Chief Blaine Cowan.
“I appreciate that you have allowed the current leader to mend fences with our neighboring agencies,” Pohlman expressed, referring to a CPR class she taught recently. Pohlman was accompanied by SLRFD members who were welcomed with open arms.
Pohlman expressed that relationships with other agencies have been strained in recent years due to past leadership. “It was super refreshing to see this pendulum swing,” Pohlman said. “I hope you take these types of relationships into serious consideration as you continue your journey to find a permanent chief.”
Vice chairman Mike Weigel said a committee reviewed nine resumes that had been submitted for the chief position. While reviewing resumes, they decided to change the job description to reflect the community. They want a chief who has paramedic experience and wildland fire experience.
