VIDEO: A forest fire that began in Angelina National Forest Tuesday has grown to 1,143 acres Wednesday, according to National Forests and Grasslands in Texas.

The Cypress Creek Fire is located just south of Zavalla, in the southern portion of the Upland Island Wilderness on the Angelina National Forest, according to U.S. Forest Service spokesperson Mandy Chumley.

Chumley said the fire is around 10% contained, however crews had “pretty good” firefighting operations Tuesday night.

About 100 people are currently on the ground fighting the fire right now. They come from several different agencies including from Louisiana, Oklahoma, Houston and the A&M National Forest Service.

The spokesperson said the fire began after a private landowner started a controlled burn on his private land a few days ago. The wind caught the fire and brought it into the forest Tuesday.
