Off-duty Bay Area CHP officer saves life of injured Cal Fire firefighter

Share

A Bay Area California Highway Patrol officer was off duty in Placer County when he witnessed a motorcycle crash that caused life-threatening injuries to the rider. Without missing a beat, officials said CHP officer Tyler Lenaburg went into action to help save the life of the rider, who was later learned to be a Cal Fire firefighter.

The serious collision occurred on the evening of February 6 on Fiddyment Road just north of Roseville. According to CHP, the off-duty Cal Fire firefighter, Trent Pajer, was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound when a Jeep turned left in front of him. After crashing into the vehicle, he was ejected and came to a rest 50-100 yards from the impact.

Lenaburg, who only four months ago became a Santa Rosa area CHP officer, had been driving behind Pajer with his fiancée, Taylor. The couple stopped to help and saw that Pajer had suffered a life-threatening injury to his leg.

“Tyler immediately retrieved a personal emergency medical kit from his vehicle and applied a tourniquet while Taylor called 911,” CHP wrote. “Tyler and Taylor stayed with the injured rider until EMS arrived, using personal clothing items to help keep him warm as he drifted in and out of consciousness.”
