Five workers hospitalized after fire at Ardmore refinery

Black smoke was seen rising from the Valero refinery in northeast Ardmore late Monday afternoon. According to an official statement from Valero, five people were taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

The full statement reads:

“Earlier this evening, a fire occurred at Valero’s Ardmore Refinery. The fire has been extinguished. Five individuals were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation and/or treatment. Our primary concern is for the people and safely securing the facility. We are coordinating with state and local agencies, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.”

According to the company’s website, its Ardmore refinery employs about 270 workers and processes 90,000 barrels of crude oil into gasoline and diesel fuel daily.
