Lamar County expanding fire training facility

Share

VIDEO: Lamar County is expanding its fire training facility for the first time since it was built. The county hopes to be able to offer new opportunities to first responders by this summer.

The fire department broke ground this week on a new portion of the facility that will be used for gas fire training. This includes car fires, dumpster fires, and other pipeline-oriented flames.

Lamar County Fire Services says this expansion presents a new opportunity for first responders across the state.

“Right now there’s just not too many places you’re able to do gas training at your agency,” said Fire Coordinator Kyle Hill. “So this gives us something unique in the area, one more chance to expand out and service other counties. We’ve allowed other counties and other municipalities to come in and train here when we have things so this just offers the whole region another chance to train on a different type of fire.”

The dirt and concrete work are being completed by the county. The props will be purchased with insurance rebate funds.
