Seven people were displaced after a fire in East Macon on Monday night, according to Bibb County Fire Chief Shane Edwards.

Edwards said that fire crews responded to a fire on Clinton Road around 7:15 p.m. on Monday, and found a three-story apartment building that had smoke billowing off of the unit.

Crews began to try and suppress the fire, according to Edwards, while other responders searched the building to ensure all occupants had been evacuated. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

Edwards said no one was injured in the fire.

Four apartment units were damaged during the fire, according to Edwards, displacing six adults and one child. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

Edwards said the cause of the fire is being investigated.
