BROOKLYN, Conn. — Local emergency crews rescued a horse named Shadow on Tuesday after the animal became stuck in ice, fire officials said.

The rescue effort took place at about 9:40 a.m. at a private residence on Winding Road, according to the Mortlake Fire Company.

Crews, including firefighters from Pomfret and staffers from the town public works department, used large animal rescue straps to lift the horse back onto its feet, the fire company said.

Veterinarians from the Tufts Hospital for Large Animals in Massachusetts also responded to check on the horse, the company said.

“We are happy to have a successful outcome to this, and to see Shadow back up and happily roaming his pasture,” the company said.
