VIDEO/PHOTOS: An off-duty firefighter is credited with saving two people from a burning home in Prescott on Saturday. It was just after 8 a.m. when Brody Fields, a fire captain with the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA), spotted smoke near Ponderosa Park Road while driving to the gym with his wife.
The couple got there before on-duty crews and found flames on one side of the house, according to CAFMA. Fields searched the home, evacuated a non-ambulatory resident, then returned to help a second person. He also went back inside to grab the homeowner’s eyeglasses, cellphone and safe.
Fields and his wife used a garden hose to keep the fire from spreading until firefighters arrived, and he briefed crews on the situation. Afterward, the couple continued to their gym.
“CAFMA commends Captain Fields for his quick thinking and commitment to the community, and recognizes the support of his wife in assisting at the scene,” the department said in a statement. “Together, their efforts reflect the spirit and professionalism of first responders.”
