VIDEO: The Anchorage Fire Department spent Tuesday afternoon training the next group of car seat technicians at the AFD Training Center.
Nineteen technician students took part in hands-on practice, installing car seats in more than a dozen vehicles.
The department says the training continues Wednesday and culminates with a public event Thursday where families can have their own child safety seats checked.
“Whether it’s a new vehicle or a new seat, because seats are changing and vehicles are changing all the time,” said Ryan Shar, a firefighter and car seat technician instructor. “Safety standards update, seats update… So even if you think you got it figured out, you can still come on by and gain that confidence.”
