Millcreek expands firework restrictions to additional ‘high-risk’ areas

Share

The City of Millcreek is expanding its fireworks restrictions to additional areas classified as high-risk, as recommended by the Unified Fire Authority (UFA). Current restrictions include all areas east of 900 East and West of 700 West, including Scott Park and Sunnyvale Park. The expanded restrictions include the area between 700 East and 900 East within the boundaries of 3300 South and Empire Avenue.

This new area was classified as high-risk due to dry vegetation and its densely populated residential areas. The map below has the areas with fire restrictions highlighted in red. The blue box indicates the newly expanded restrictions.

According to the city’s website, the UFA Fire Marshal recommended that Millcreek continue to restrict the discharge of fireworks in certain areas. The restrictions will be enforced by UFA firefighters and Unified Police Department (UPD) officers working together.

Assistant Chief Zach Robinson with Unified Fire Authority told ABC4.com that most of this new area had fire restrictions last year, but this new boundary is clearer and includes an area with significant vegetation growth that residents and a city council member were concerned about.
