VIDEO: The Lochloosa West Fire is close to 1,000 acres in size as crews work to get the flames under control.

Florida Forest Service officials said the fire was about 50% contained as of Wednesday night.

Officials said they are continuing to keep crews on the fire day and night.

Crews have been fighting fire with fire by burning out some vegetation to reduce the amount of fuel supply for the wildfire.

The controlled burn resulted in ash falling in East Gainesville and Waldo.
