VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands has said to expect a higher uptick in wildfires statewide this June and July.
“We’re in on the course of seeing some critical fire weather, and for late June and July, the whole state’s going to see probably higher than average fire,” said Kayli Guild with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands.
Guild said this is due to no snowpack, extra dry fuels and statewide drought.
In the past 24 hours, there have been six wildfires, all in Central and Southern Utah. In Washington County, conditions are still at risk, fresh off the red-flag warning.
Washington County Fire Warden Heber Heider said that while the south starts the season early, they expect to see fires across the state anytime.
“The whole state is at risk this year just due to the lack of snow pack and lack of rainfall,” Heider said. Heider said that this year, both low and high elevations are at risk.
