Trash fire at northwest Wichita landfill creates heavy smoke

Share

A trash fire in northwest Wichita on Saturday caused dark, heavy smoke to spread through the sky. On Saturday afternoon, there was a fire at CDR Landfill on 37th Street. Fire crews arrived and found a heavy trash fire. They used about 5,000 gallons of water to get it under control, and then buried the fire with excavators.

“We shuttled our water here. We got two tender loads of water to put on it, that’s about 2,500 gallons a piece,” said Judd Brackeen, Division Chief of the Wichita Fire Department. “No injuries, everybody’s safe, just a lot of black smoke there for a little bit.” Fire crews do not know what caused the fire to start.
