Reins of Hope is a non-profit organization at Le Bocage that doesn’t just teach clients how to ride a horse. They create empowering bonds with them. We spoke with Kammi Istre this morning about the “Second Stride” program that Reins of Hope has launched for veterans and first responders.
The new equine-assisted initiative is designed to support healing, resilience, and renewed purpose.
Second Stride is a grant-funded initiative offered at no cost to participants, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of healing and connection. Designed specifically for military veterans and community first responders, the program provides physical, emotional, and mental wellness support through the proven healing power of horses.
Participants will engage in structured equine-assisted activities that foster trust, confidence, emotional regulation, and connection in a peaceful setting.
By creating meaningful, structured equine-assisted experiences for veterans and first responders, Reins of Hope contributes to the growth and sustainability of Louisiana’s equine industry. With this support, the organization is excited to showcase the vital role horses play in education, wellness, and service across the state.
