VIDEO/PHOTOS: The winds have picked up the dust and ash left by the wildfires, which cut a seven-mile path near Lawton and Bronson. What remains are clouds of dust consuming the skies. Woodbury County Emergency Management says approximately 3,500 acres.
At some points, the dust and ash mix was so dense that it was a dust storm or haboob-level loss of visibility. Emergency management wants to remind residents to remain vigilant during dry and windy conditions and follow any local burn restrictions to help prevent future fires. Hopefully, firefighters have gotten some rest since their response to that massive wildfire. Dozens of departments answered the call to help.
In total, over 40 fire and EMS departments from three states responded, along with 8 law enforcement agencies, 6 emergency management agencies, and more than 20 supporting organizations. Chief Lucas Ploen of Pierson Fire says they’ve been busy all season with grass fires, “This is the biggest one that I’ve ever been on to date.”
