One person died and another was seriously injured in a house fire in Sagle on Sunday morning. According to Selkirk Fire, firefighters responded to the fire on Gold Mountain Drive around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. While on their way, first responders learned there may be people inside the home. When crews arrived, crews found heavy fire coming from the front of a single-family home.

Firefighters immediately started working to put out the fire and search for victims. Selkirk Fire said one person was found inside a bedroom. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim was also found at the scene. Selkirk Fire says the second victim was a neighbor who had tried to save the first. The neighbor suffered critical injuries from the fire and was taken to a nearby hospital.

On Tuesday, The State Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire was determined to be caused by a wood stove in the living room. Selkirk Fire wants to remind homeowners to have their wood stoves serviced and inspected each year, have repairs made by a licensed contractor, and always maintain clearance around the woodstove free of flammable materials when in use.
