Oklahoma City firefighters respond to two fires; One person hospitalized

Share

Oklahoma City fire crews responded to two fires Thursday morning, including a duplex fire at Northwest 115th Street and Rockwell Avenue and an abandoned church blaze near Reno and Villa avenues, as winter weather approaches.

“When we got on seeing a lot of smoke and heavy smoke, and we had flames showing from the, it would have been back up the Parker back bedroom closest to Rockwell,” said Maj. Jeff Chappell of the Oklahoma City Fire Department.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but heavy smoke damage required additional crews. “The number of crews is probably going to be total somewhere around 14 or 15. We consider this a commercial alarm because of the size of the structure, the number of residents we send additional resources to help,” Chappell said.

Both sides of the duplex were occupied, and one person was taken to a hospital. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. While responding to the duplex fire, another call came in about a fire near a church in northwest Oklahoma City. Shortly after, fire crews responded to an abandoned church near Reno and Villa, where two people trying to stay warm had started a fire. No one was hospitalized.
