PRESCOTT, Ariz. — An off-duty Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority firefighter is being credited with rescuing two people from a burning Prescott home.
Just after 8 a.m. on Dec. 13, Captain Brody Fields noticed smoke near Ponderosa Park Road while driving to the gym with his wife. They arrived ahead of firefighters and saw flames burning along one side of the home, AZ Family reported.

Fields searched the home, helped evacuate a non-ambulatory resident, then returned to remove a second person. He later reentered the house to retrieve the homeowner’s eyeglasses, cellphone and safe.
Fields and his wife then used a garden hose to slow the fire’s spread until firefighters arrived, then briefed crews before continuing to the gym.
“CAFMA commends Captain Fields for his quick thinking and commitment to the community, and recognizes the support of his wife in assisting at the scene,” the department said in a statement. “Together, their efforts reflect the spirit and professionalism of first responders.”
