Maui firefighters responded to a fire at a restaurant in Wailuku on Wednesday afternoon, and the fire may have been started by accident.

The Maui Fire Department was alerted about a structure fire at 4:47 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, located at the 1000 block of Lower Main St. in Wailuku. Firefighters arrived at the scene and found a small, one-story restaurant with smoke coming out of it.

Firefighters took hoses inside Randy’s Catering & Fast Food and searched the property to confirm no one was inside. They got the fire under control by 5 p.m. and fully extinguished it 10 minutes later.

A fire investigator is looking into the cause of the fire, and preliminary indications show that the fire was accidental.

One person was taken by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. Lower Main Street was closed to traffic as first responders remained at the scene.
