Marsh fire produces large smoke plume in St. Bernard Parish

A marsh fire produced a large plume of smoke visible across parts of St. Bernard Parish and New Orleans East on Monday.

The St. Bernard Parish Fire Department said the fire is located several miles into the marsh. Officials said they do not believe the fire poses a threat to homes at this time.

The smoke plume was visible from Interstate 10 and areas south of New Orleans East. The fire is burning in a marsh area behind a flood wall off West Judge Perez Drive.

Hazy conditions and smoke were reported on roadways in St. Bernard Parish, particularly along Judge Perez Drive. The smoke spread for miles across the area. The fire was first spotted on weather cameras before crews located the source in the marsh.
