A 2-year-old child died Sunday after being rescued from a fire that took place late Saturday night, off East Raymond Street and I-65. Shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, the Indianapolis Fire Department was called to 1513 Finley Ave. after they received a call from a neighbor who reported the flames. According to a release by IFD, there was heavy fire exposure on the first floor of the two-story structure.

The house was occupied by two adults and three children, a 4-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a 13-month-old. The family had only lived in the home for a year. The family, including their dog, was able to escape the fire as they were downstairs at the time the smoke detectors went off.

Upon arrival, firefighters learned from the family that the 2-year-old child was still inside. The child was located by firefighters just minutes after entering the house, despite heavy smoke obscuring the way.
