Helicopter hoists injured hiker off trail near Peoria

Share

VIDEO: A helicopter was deployed Monday to assist an injured hiker on a trail in the West Valley.

The Peoria Fire Department said four people were hiking along the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Trail near Dysart and Jomax roads and one of them fell.

The hiker sustained a lower-extremity injury and a helicopter was utilized to hoist the patient off the trail, the fire department said.

The helicopter transported the hiker to a landing zone, where the individual was then loaded into an ambulance and taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire department reported treating another person for heat-related symptoms but that individual was not taken to a hospital.
