Heavy rain, standing water lead to 2nd crash on I-84 in Weber Canyon

Share

Emergency crews responded to a second crash Sunday night in Weber Canyon after heavy rain led to slick roads and standing water, according to the Mountain Green Fire Protection District.

Water estimated at about one inch deep was reported on westbound Interstate 84 near the Mountain Green entrance ramp, where a crash six hours earlier damaged a guardrail and trapped a driver at the same location.

In the second crash, reported about 6 p.m., a sedan and a semi tractor-trailer collided after one of the vehicles reportedly hydroplaned.

Both vehicles struck a temporary crash attenuator truck that had been placed following the earlier incident. The MGFPD said the temporary barrier likely prevented more severe injuries, as the damaged guardrail had not yet been repaired.

The driver of the sedan was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No injuries were reported for the semi truck driver.
