Girard home destroyed in fire, several fire departments respond

Share

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Several fire departments responded to a fully involved house fire Wednesday morning in Girard. Crews were called just after 10 a.m. Wednesday to the house on W. 2nd Street — across the street from Jib Jab Hot Dog Shoppe. W. 2nd Street was shut down while crews battled the fire.

Heavy black smoke could be seen billowing into the air, and heavy flames were shooting from just about every window of the house. The fire was so big, First News crews could see the smoke while traveling north on the State Route 711 connector.

Firefighters say the home’s occupants made it out safely. However, a firefighter did twist her knee. Crews from at least six different fire departments spent hours working to put the fire out. The fire caused so much damage that the attic and second floor collapsed to the first floor.
