From Henley High to the ODF Fireline: How students are helping build a mobile command center

Share

Henley High School students are transforming a school bus into a wildfire command center for the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF). This hands-on project allows students to explore engineering, electrical work, and construction while still in school.

The project has been in progress for months, with students designing the bus plans last spring. They are now involved in custom builds, painting, and electrical work to aid ODF in fighting fires.

“We’ve been able to take our individual skill sets and kind of combine them together and do a project that simply wouldn’t have been possible if just our engineering class was working on it, or just our construction class, or just our art class, and we were really able to collaborate and create something really amazing,” said Dylan Orr, a Henley High School student.

This initiative has provided students with the opportunity to build new skills and gain practical experience.
