Share

Investigators have recovered human remains following a residential fire in Koyuk that left one man missing Monday morning, according to an update from Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers and a deputy fire marshal responded to the community — located on the Norton Sound, about 125 miles east of Nome — to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. During the investigation, human remains were recovered from the scene and will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Officer for identification, troopers said.

The remains are believed to be those of 23-year-old Trevor Savetilik, who had been reported missing after the fire. According to troopers, the investigation remains ongoing, but there were no immediate signs of foul play. The fire was reported around 6:05 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities said three other residents were able to exit the home without injury.
