Firefighters respond to SW Portland landslide, take residents to safety

PHOTOS: Multiple apartment units were impacted by a landslide in Southwest Portland on Thursday amid local flood warnings.

Portland Fire and Rescue said crews responded to reports of a landslide impacting a single building of the Indian Hills apartment Complex.

When firefighters arrived, they found a portion of the parking lot and road covered with debris, with mud actively moving down the slope. Piles of earth, brush and trees were smashed up against the building, which had six individual apartment units inside it.

Firefighters determined that only two of the six apartment units were occupied, and they escorted the residents inside to safety. The four other units did not respond to door-knocking and crews did not break down the doors, reasoning that the homes must be empty, given that the parking lot was sparsely populated by cars at the time. There were no reported injuries.
