Firefighters battle two-alarm blaze at industrial warehouse in Portland neighborhood

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Firefighters have battled a two-alarm blaze at a commercial building in the Argay Terrace neighborhood. Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the scene near Northeast 127th and Marx Street around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, after someone called to report smoke spreading from a nearby structure.

Crews found a large column of smoke releasing from the roof and bay doors of a building when they arrived, PF&R revealed. The agency said the first crew to arrive immediately established a water supply, forcible entry and search for the fire. Authorities then called a second alarm due to the “large size” of the warehouse building.

Firefighters reported that the building held several businesses, all of which were closed with no employees on the scene. Crews used “elevated master streams” to control the blaze from above, after it had already burned through sections of the roof.

They also used large hose lines to control the fire coming from openings on the side of the building, some of which were bay doors that responders forced open. According to officials, freezing temperatures made it difficult for firefighters to move around the scene with an icy parking lot and nearby roads.
