Firefighter suffers minor injury battling fire in south Wichita

Share

Firefighters battled an early morning house fire in south Wichita on Thursday that left one firefighter with minor injuries. Crews were called shortly after 2 a.m. to a home in the 1300 block of South Water, where they found a two-story addition at the back of the house on fire, according to Wichita fire officials.

Battalion Chief Chad Dunham said firefighters had to contend with excessive storage inside the structure, which made it more difficult to reach the flames.

One firefighter suffered a minor foot injury but did not need to be taken to a hospital. Dunham said the firefighter stepped into a 5-gallon bucket of oil that had been heated by the fire as he was going in. The oil splashed over the top of his boot and burned his foot. No cause for the fire has been determined. An investigation is ongoing.
