Fire reported in Downtown Topeka building

Firefighters responded to a blaze at a building in Downtown Topeka on Friday evening. According to the Topeka Fire Department (TFD), on Friday at 6 p.m., crews responded to a fire at 935 South Kansas Ave. When firefighters arrived they discovered smoke coming from the rear of the structure.

Officials said that firefighters initiated an offensive fire attack and extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to the structure of origin. One occupant was able to leave the building before crews arrived. There were no reported injuries. Investigators say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
