Fire ignites in Tooele neighborhood burning two detached garages

Share

Two detached garages were burned in an early morning fire in Tooele the day after Christmas.

The fire ignited after 2 a.m. Friday near 60 Glenwood Avenue, according to Tooele Fire Captain Bryan Steward.

Steward said the fire started in a residence’s detached garage before spreading to a neighbor’s garage. Both homes were spared from the flames and were not damaged.

There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters.

The fire drew local attention online, with several people reporting thick smoke and the sound of an explosion or a loud “boom” in the night.

“It was behind my house, I woke up to a boom and looked out my window. There was huge flames and tons of black smoke with embers in it,” one user wrote.

Steward said they were not aware of any explosions, but since the fire was in garages, it’s possible there were combustible items inside.

Officials said there was no threat to the public or official evacuation orders.
