A brush fire briefly prompted evacuations in a small town near the Arizona-Mexico border, according to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. As of Sunday morning, the Palominas Fire is 50% contained and has burned roughly 40 acres. Officials say the fire started on Saturday afternoon near Highway 92 and Palominas Road in the small community of Palominas, south of Sierra Vista.

One hand crew, four fire engines and one water tender remained on the scene about 11 a.m., according to the Bureau of Land Management Arizona Fire Management. Residents who live west of Paloma Trail and south of Highway 92 were initially told to evacuate as “GO” status was implemented on Saturday. On Sunday morning, Cochise County officials downgraded the evacuation status to “SET.”
