East Anchorage house fire sends person to hospital, two dogs to emergency vet

Share

A fire at an east Anchorage home sent one person to the hospital and two dogs to the emergency veterinarian Sunday. The Anchorage Fire Department responded to a single-family home with heavy fire coming from the back of the building, said Captain Ryan Sorsdal with the Anchorage Fire Department.

The occupant was outside with one dog when firefighters arrived, but another dog was trapped downstairs. Firefighters put out the fire and rescued the dog from the basement, Sorsdal said. The person was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries. Both dogs were taken to an emergency veterinarian as a precaution. Sorsdal said he thought the fire was caused by a cooking accident.
