Around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, dispatch received calls about a fire at a residence on the border of Sandy and the Cottonwood Heights area. Unified Fire Authority (UFA) and Sandy City Fire both responded to the scene and found a fairly significant fire in the rear corner of the home’s basement.

Fortunately, fire crews were able to knock out the fire. However, they stated that there was significant damage and the two residents, who had arrived home while the fire was active, will be temporarily displaced.

Notably, a pet dog was initially unaccounted for, and one of the residents went inside the home in an unsuccessful attempt to get the dog. The resident reportedly experienced minor smoke inhalation.
