VIDEO: The White Bluff-Rye Hill Volunteer Fire Department in Sebastian County is mourning the loss of firefighter Brenda Speer after she suffered a stroke last week. The department confirmed on Sunday that Speer had passed that morning surrounded by family.

“Brenda was an esteemed colleague who touched the lives of many within our community. As a dedicated wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother she consistently exemplified commitment and compassion,” White Bluff-Rye Hill said. “Her attributes to our department were invaluable, she addressed every concern, undertook every task, and offered help to all.”

A Facebook post from the department said Speer served there for two years as a firefighter, first responder, and safety officer. Speer was airlifted to a hospital in Northwest Arkansas on Feb. 8. While she was at the hospital, White Bluff-Rye Hill Fire Department joined other volunteers from nearby fire departments to complete work at her house.

“We’re overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible volunteers from Bonanza and Sugarloaf fire departments who lent a helping hand,” the White Bluff-Rye Hill Fire Department said.

In the wake of Speer’s passing, local and state groups have offered condolences and prayers for her friends, family, and colleagues.
