PHOTOS: A child was taken to the hospital after a car crashed into a school on Indianapolis’ southwest side Wednesday morning.

The incident was reported shortly before 9 a.m. Jan. 14 at Liberty Preschool/Lynwood Elementary School on Santa Fe Drive, near Kentucky Avenue and South Lynhurst Drive.

A 13News crew at the scene found an SUV had crashed through a window and was roughly halfway into the building following the incident, before being pulled out by a tow truck.

“The driver of the vehicle was uninjured, and her child had non-life threatening injuries,” the Decatur Civil Township Fire Department said in a social media post. “The child was taken to the hospital to be checked out.”

No students were in the classroom at the time. School officials told 13News that a teacher’s assistant was in a nearby hallway at the time, but not in the classroom the car drove into.

“The building sustained moderate damage, but it did not affect any structural components,” the fire department said.
