The Cedar City Fire Department is moving forward with the purchase of a new brush truck, costing over $400,000. Cedar City Fire Chief Mike Phillips approached the Cedar City Council earlier this month to request approval for the purchase of a Type 5 brush truck from Siddons-Martin Emergency Group. The council approved the request last Wednesday.
A Type 5 brush truck’s tank can hold at least 400 gallons of water, and has a minimum pump flow of 50 gallons per minute, according to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group. It will cost $406,267, and the funds will be pulled from the Capitol Reserve Account. Phillips said there are enough funds in the account for the purchase due to revenue the department earned through the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands Cooperator Program.
