Hero dog alerts Orange County family to house fire

Share

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Orange County fire officials are crediting a dog with alerting his family to an early morning fire on Wednesday, which allowed them to get out of the home safely. “Give this dog an award!” Orange County Fire Authority posted on Facebook.

The OCFA says that Fillmore barked inside the family home on Skyway Drive in an unincorporated area of Tustin and refused to stop. The homeowners eventually realized that something was wrong and looked out the back window, where they saw a flickering light.

“They first feared a neighbor’s house was on fire, but when they went outside, they discovered their own garage engulfed in flames,” the fire authority said. After calling for help, the family grabbed garden hoses and tried to stop the fire from spreading.

Arriving firefighters quickly contained the flames to the garage, preventing damage to the rest of the home. “Before leaving, firefighters gave Fillmore some well-deserved attention!” the fire authority wrote, sharing images of the pup posing with a firefighter in the front yard.
