Members of the Lawton Fire Department got a chance to participate in specialized training on Wednesday.
LFD firefighters gathered at the Great Plains Technology Center to work with OSU Fire Services.
Participants learned the ins and out of trench rescue, giving them the skills they need to get access to victims and get them to safety.
Organizers with OSU say training like this is critical for a growing area like southwest Oklahoma.
“With the amount of new infrastructure that’s coming in in the Lawton area and the surrounding areas, we do see a lot of dirt being moved around, new trenches dug for sewer lines, water lines, electrical lines, things like that,” Resource Instructor Zachary Huffman said. “And things aren’t always done up to code, so there can be instances, and these guys are going to be trained and ready to mitigate those problems.”
The training is set to run through to Friday.
